What can I use mdexfixed.IP for?

mdexfixed.IP allows you to use GPRS or UMTS mobile networks to access a field site from a control centre and vice versa. You can, for example, remotely read measuring equipment; remotely control pumps; update systems with new software and much more.

To this end mdexfixed.IP assigns a fixed private IP address to every device connected. This allows you to securely access your device at any time from any Internet connection via an mdexOpenVPN access point or mdexweb.direct.

What do I need to transmit data using mdexfixed.IP?

To access your field sites via mdexfixed.IP you will need

•    An IP-enable end device at your field site
•    A GPRS or UMTS-enabled mobile modem of your choice
•    A (post-paid) SIM card from your network operator
•    A control centre computer (if necessary with an mdex OpenVPN client)
•    Any Internet connection for your control centre
•    Your access data for the mdex network

Why do I need mdexfixed.IP for this?

Up until now as a general rule mobile devices were accessible from the Internet. Communications in the other direction were possible. The mdex system now provides a bi-directional connection between a mobile network and the Internet. Insofar as network coverage is available mdex can ensure that the devices connected are accessible at all times.

Up until now network operators only assigned variable, frequently changing IP addresses to mobile device. So you never quite knew which address you needed to access your system. In addition to this, most network operators use a firewall to block access to mobile devices. That has now changed with mdexfixed.IP. You can probably guess why...

The mdex system also protects you against unauthorized third party access and Internet spam. A closed user group means that only you can access your devices.

To ensure that you always have an overview, mdex provides you with a Web portal ("my-mdex") with your own access data. The portal allows you, for example, to monitor the online status of your connected devices live at any time.
